Snomageddon 2011

You may have heard about the inclement weather we endured this week.  It was quite unfair of Mother Nature actually...you see, Tuesday was our ninth wedding anniversary and we had big plans to go out on the town but the 3rd largest blizzard in Chicago history had to blow in and leave stuck at home.   It worked out ok in the end.  We grilled steaks and had a movie night...followed by a snow day.  We lost cable and internet for 20+ hours, and the power flickered quite a bit.  Let me tell you... 24+ inches of snow sure makes for beautiful scenery...and sore muscles from all the shoveling.

But it wasn't all work...I just had to try a running jump into one of the large snowbanks.
Oh, and Winston also got dressed to play in the snow:

But soon after this picture was taken he started wrestling his hat...so when he played in the snow the poor little buddy was naked.

Here's a few more:

Here comes the sun!

Would you believe me if I told you it was almost 60 degrees in our fair city today?  Besta, Nathan and I took advantage of the sun and went on a nice, long afternoon walk to return our redbox movie.  Soaking up that vitamin D felt so good.  I remember when we moved here that people said the winters suck, but it just makes you appreciate the other three seasons that much more...and now I can understand the truth behind that statement.  (can you believe we've almost been here a year??!?)  Over the last few days I've found myself examining the trees a little more closely hoping to see a little smidgen of a sign that spring is coming...and guess what I saw today:

It won't be long folks...and I for one cannot wait!!

You'll never guess...

what Mother Nature is doing right now...
I wonder if I should send her a reminder e-mail that it is APRIL 24th!??!?

warm enough for ya?

So the #1 story on Cnn.com right now is the heat in the West and South West...and, luckilly enough, that is where I live!! Now, I don't have it as bad as people in AZ or NV (I feel for ya Kara!) but it is still HOT...normally the little secluded valley where we live doesn't get as hot as other places close by but it has been unbearably hot the last few days - it was 98 yesterday and it is likely going to top 100....that may not seem like a lot compared to 115 in AZ (once again, sorry Kara!) but it is warmer than we are used to...

So if I were to ask you what you think I did on the 4th (in all the heat) your likely answer would have been "Spent time at Bear Lake - your favorite place on earth"...well you'd be wrong... (although I would have loved to be there, but not with all the people that were there)

Nathan and I woke up at 6am...went out to his dad's farm and got a load of huge boulders, brought them home, excavated by the fence and put in a flower bed...in the heat... ick! We then had a BBQ in the evening, but man I was tired and hot and onery (after working all day in the heat - who wouldn't be?!?)

The bad news is that the heat shows NO SIGN of leaving any time soon :(

It better not

The weather here today - and supposedly for the next two days is supposed to be nasty...like 12+ inches of snow nasty...and it had better not be - my Aliums are coming up and it will kill them :(

In other 'news' - hehe, I said that like I am so important...chuckle. Nathan's brother flew in for a couple days and that's always good - but the happier news is that he's coming back this summer and bringing the whole fam! I haven't seen all those nieces and nephews in a while and it will be SO fun to see/hang out with them! :) Its hard because Nathan's got siblings spread all over the world...and some we don't see very often. In fact, we have 1 niece and 2 nephews that we have never seen :(

I have been seriously contemplating buying a sports car...I like them but so far I have seen it as totally unpractical...afterall...you can't put a car seat in a 2-seat convertible...but I think it might be good for me...having a car that won't 'allow' for children can give my mind (and heart) a break from thinking about it all the time. Plus, driving around in a sports car would be a little more motivation to lose some weight - cause I don't want to be the fat girl in the hot car...

Snow

Isn't it amazing that after a good snowfall all the impurities of the earth are covered in a shining coat of clean white? And everything feels fresh and pure and happy? Don't you wish there was something like that for mankind?

Snow

So it snowed Wednesday night....yep, it is October and it snowed...and the freakier part is that some lawns around town STILL have traces of snow on them...

While it was snowing I was thinking "Whoo Hoo, snow day" and then I remembered where I live and the fact that only like 4 feet in one night would be enought to likely deter school or work... :( That was one nice thing about RI - when it snowed only a few inches we got snow days...

Can your skin actually melt off?

Ok, so have you seen the Indiana Jones movie Raiders of the Lost Ark? Remember in the end where the Nazi guy is looking into it and he melts?? (sorry i I just ruined the ending for anyone, but hey...that movie is SUPER old and if you haven't seen it by now...)

I walked outside just now to take out the garbage...and I felt like my skin could melt right off...nasty. I don't ever remember it being this hot here - it has been in the upper 90's and 100's for the last 2 weeks or so...with NO end in sight...And I guess the heat is not only here, but all across the county...California has had like 140 people DIE because of this heat...

Man, it makes me VERY GRATEFUL for central air!
