When the cat is away the mouse will...craft?

I have this old ribbon memo board that was in desperate need of a makeover. Here's a before:

I tore off the back lining, the front fabric and the ribbon then replaced them with some that go a little bit better with our decor.

I repainted the buttons to match the ribbon.

Here it is in action.

**for Sheila**

Here's a pic of the back of the memo board. You can see that the sides and the two middle pieces are thicker than the rest. The little pieces of brown tape are covering where the staples are coming through the back. (Here's a little secret...the buttons are hot glued on. I stapled where the ribbons cross, then glued the buttons over the staple.)

This is a pic of how thin the main board is.

You are an inspiration! I have an ugly one I was going to throw away. I might have to follow your lead!

I had a project in mind for a memory board, got the fabric, ribbon, trim and batting. I was going to put it on some leftover plywood that I had from the headboard, but after the Navy audit situation, I just decided plywood was too heavy. What is yours made of? I need some "light" backing ideas. Yours looks gorgeous! Mine is going in my kitchen which is black, red and yellow, bees and hives. I got some cool black fabric with red spiky flowers on it. It's really fun!

The wood for the board is a SUPER thin pressboard. It is less than 1/4". It then has a little makeshift frame added to it.
You should be able to find it at Home Depot....and they'll even cut it for you for free.
I'll post a pic for you.

Beautiful! I got it in my head to make one of these one week, but then I remembered I was lazy.

Thanks for the pictures, that helps me visualize it easier. Pressboard would be perfect, and the batting makes it look "fluffier" right? Thanks again, can't wait to post pictures of mine. :) You're inspiring! Love the coasters, too!
